Poured-in-Place Rubber Surfacing

Playgrounds Unlimited is Northern California’s leading installer and distributor of SAFEPOUR Poured-In-Place rubber safety surfacing. We have been installing Poured-In-Place rubber surfacing with our own, in house employees for over 25 years, and have poured over two million square feet of product. With our extensive history of installing rubber surfacing, combined with our proven installation techniques, we developed the SAFEPOUR product line.

Introducing SAFEPOUR:

“SAFEPOUR” is a safe, porous, shock-absorbing, low-maintenance, and durable unitary surfacing system for today’s playgrounds and water parks. The SAFEPOUR product line is privately owned, enabling Playgrounds Unlimited sole control over its products, operations, and training. The system uses a proprietary blend of the highest-quality, tested and verified, industry-leading components. SAFEPOUR offers the following product line.

SAFEPOUR EPDM – a high-density, 2-layer, seamless system comprised of a base layer of 100% post-consumer recycled SBR rubber (Styrene-Butadiene Rubber) and polyurethane binder, a top layer of EPDM rubber (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer), available in  1 – 3.5 mm or .5 – 1.5 mm rubber granules, and either “Standard” Aromatic polyurethane binder or “Premium” Aliphatic UV Stable polyurethane binder.

High Performance (HP) EPDM offers superior UV stability to better withstand exposure to ultraviolet rays and natural elements to maintain durability and vivid, high-quality color strength over time. Our customers are ensured consistent, vibrant-colored rubber granules that provide uniformity, resilience, reliability, and long-lasting aesthetics.

Safepour “Standard”: A selection of curated standard colors to choose from mixed with 50% Jet Black 5307A, using “Standard” Aromatic polyurethane binder and 1 – 3.5 mm rubber granules.

Safepour “Premium”: A full range of curated colors to choose from, 100% of any color or any combination of % mixed color, using “Premium” Aliphatic UV stable polyurethane binder and 1 – 3.5 mm rubber granules.

Safepour “Elite”: A full range of curated colors to choose from, in any % mixed color, using premium Aliphatic UV stable polyurethane binder and .5 – 1.5 mm “small” rubber granules.

Playground areas require meeting “critical fall height” ASTM standards. Critical height is defined as “…the maximum fall height from which a life-threatening head injury would not be expected to occur.” Fall height is “…the vertical distance between a designated play surface and the playgrounds surface beneath it.”

SAFEPOUR’s 2-layer system incorporates a resilient base for maximum shock absorption and a wear resistant top surface. This system is far safer than any loose-fill playground surface because the SAFEPOUR rubber granules are bound together forming a permanent surface that doesn’t get pushed out of the way during play.

SAFEPOUR is mixed and applied on the job site, allowing for the surface thickness to be easily adjusted to meet varying and required critical fall height, and can be installed over a compacted sub-grade of base rock, asphalt, or concrete in any design configuration and dimensions. The SAFEPOUR product line was designed to meet and exceed two critical performance standards (ASTM F1292 and ASTM F1951).

SAFEPOUR  Is IPEMA Certified, Supported, and Validated

  • Approved Control Assurance Manual for Field Manufactured Unitary Playground Safety Surface Systems (Poured-In-Place).
  • ASTM F3313 Annual Field Testing and Validation of Surfacing.
  • ASTM F1292 Testing to verify certified fall height rating.
  • Required installation employee certification program.

Safety is a priority and we are committed to providing the safest Poured-In-Place rubber surface in the market today. We have invested in our own Triax Surface Impact Test System so we can field verify the performance of SAFEPOUR post installation, providing verification that our standards and specifications have been achieved.

Installation is a critical component of any Poured-In-Place system. Our experience with various products and conditions in Northern California has helped us develop systematic installation techniques that consider mix timing, temperature, humidity, and sub-base conditions, allowing us to provide the highest quality, uniform, and consistent installations in the Poured-In-Place industry.

100% of our work is performed by manufacturer direct employees who are experienced, skilled, factory-trained, certified installers that understand the product and take pride in their work. We have the ability to perform and install whatever your imagination can create, including multiple colors and customizable combinations, logos, special graphics, geometric shapes, game graphics, and other design configurations into the play surfaces.

What You Need to Know to Evaluate Your Project Site

For Poured-In-Place rubber safety surfacing, your project site evaluation should include the following considerations:

  • Project site access
  • Square feet
  • Thickness (critical fall height)
  • Binder type (aromatic/aliphatic)
  • Color mixes
  • Site preparation requirements (base): asphalt, concrete, base rock
  • Edge details, including transition edges with synthetic turf
